๐ŸŽ‚ Age Calculator

Your exact age in years, months and days โ€” plus totals in weeks, days and hours and a countdown to your next birthday.

Your exact age is more than a number of birthdays. The Age Calculator turns a date of birth into a precise breakdown โ€” years, months and days โ€” and then keeps going: the total number of months, weeks, days and hours you have lived, the day of the week you were born, and how many days remain until your next birthday.

You need this in more places than you would expect. Visa and immigration forms ask for age in years and months. Paediatricians and vets track age in months or weeks. Pension and retirement rules hinge on exact dates, and school admission cut-offs, sports age brackets and insurance quotes all depend on how old someone was on one particular day โ€” not on how old they are roughly.

Leave the reference date on today and the tool tells you your current age. Change it and you can ask how old someone was on any past or future date: how old you were on your first day of school, how old your daughter will be on her wedding day, how many days a grandparent lived. Everything is calculated in your browser โ€” no date you enter ever leaves your device.

How the age calculation works

The straightforward part is the day count. The tool converts your birth date and the reference date to midnight UTC, subtracts one from the other and divides by the 86,400,000 milliseconds in a day. That produces the exact number of complete days you have lived, with every leap year included automatically.

The years, months and days breakdown is harder, because months are not equal in length. The calculator counts whole months from your birth date to the reference date, then checks whether adding that many months would land after the reference date โ€” if it does, it steps back one month. The leftover days are then measured from that anchored date. This is the same convention official forms use: from 31 January to 1 March is reported as 1 month and 1 day, because 31 January plus one month clamps to the end of February and one more day reaches 1 March.

That clamping step is what keeps the answer honest. Adding a month to 31 January naively rolls the date over into early March, which would make you a month older than you really are. The calculator instead limits the day to the length of the target month, so 31 January plus one month is 28 February โ€” or 29 February in a leap year โ€” and never 2 or 3 March.

Practical examples

Say you were born on 15 June 1990. On 1 October 2026 the calculator reports 36 years, 3 months and 16 days: a total of 13,257 days, which is 1,893 weeks and 6 days, or 318,168 hours. It also shows that you were born on a Friday, and that your next birthday falls on 15 June 2027 โ€” 257 days away โ€” when you turn 37.

For a month-end case, take someone born on 31 January 1990. On 1 March 2026 the result is 36 years, 1 month and 1 day. A calculator that simply subtracts the day numbers produces a negative remainder here; the clamped-month method gets it right.

Leap-day babies are handled as well. Someone born on 29 February 2000 is shown as 26 years, 0 months and 1 day old on 1 March 2026 โ€” 9,497 days โ€” and the birthday countdown rolls forward to 1 March in years that have no 29 February, the convention most official bodies follow.

Edge cases and things to watch for

29 February birthdays. In a non-leap year there is no 29 February, so the countdown treats 1 March as the birthday. The number of days lived is unaffected by that choice โ€” only the date on which the countdown resets changes.

Time zones. Every date is read as midnight UTC, so the same input gives the same answer wherever you open the page. Only if you want the age to tick over at your own local midnight could a boundary case differ by a single day.

Reference dates. Enter a reference date earlier than the birth date and the tool says so instead of returning a negative age. Enter today's date and a baby born today correctly shows as zero days old, because a person is only one day old after a full 24 hours have passed.

Country and cultural differences

Western convention โ€” and the one used by passports, tax authorities and this tool โ€” counts completed years. Some East Asian traditions worked differently: the traditional Chinese and Korean systems counted a baby as one year old at birth and added another year at the Lunar New Year, so a child could be considered two while their Western age was still one. South Korea replaced that traditional reckoning with the international system for official documents in 2023.

Because of those differences, the days and months figures are the safest answer across borders โ€” they are identical in every country and every calendar convention. When a form simply asks for "age" without further detail, it means completed years in the Western sense, which is the first figure this calculator reports.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate my exact age?

Enter your date of birth and the calculator counts whole months from that date to the reference date, then measures the leftover days. You get your age as years, months and days โ€” the same convention used on official forms โ€” along with totals in months, weeks, days and hours.

Why does my age in months and days differ from my age in years?

They are the same span expressed in different units. Years alone round down to completed birthdays, while the months-and-days figure shows exactly how far you are past your last birthday. If you are 36 years and 3 months old, the year figure says 36 because your 37th birthday has not arrived yet.

How does the calculator handle a 29 February birthday?

A leap-day birthday is counted normally in leap years. In a year without a 29 February, the birthday countdown rolls forward to 1 March, which is the convention used by most official bodies. The total number of days you have lived is unaffected by the choice.

Is this age calculator accurate for dates in the past?

Yes. You can set the reference date to any past date to see how old someone was on that day โ€” for example how old you were on your first day of school. The calculation uses midnight UTC for both dates and accounts for every leap year in between.

Does the calculator use my time zone?

Both dates are interpreted as midnight UTC, so the same input always produces the same answer no matter where in the world you open the page. Only if you need the count to change over at your own local midnight could a boundary case differ by a single day.

Can I calculate someone else's age, or a pet's age?

Absolutely. Just enter their date of birth. The calculator works for any person or animal, which makes it handy for tracking a baby's age in months, a puppy's age in weeks, or finding out how many days a friend has been alive on their birthday.
